A source from Bloomberg said that Apple has decided to discontinue the electric vehicle research group, known as the Special Projects Group. The move also ends Apple’s secret effort to develop an electric car to compete with Tesla.
In fact, Apple has never publicly talked about its efforts in manufacturing create electric cars. However, many leaked information has revealed the company’s ambition to expand into a completely new product area.
Reports of Apple’s car manufacturing ambitions first emerged in 2014 after the company recruited a series of engineers and other talent in the field.
Over the years, Apple has had a number of reorganizations in the Special Projects Group, including cutting and transferring employees to other departments in 2019. According to Bloomberg, employees in The car division will soon be transferred to the generative AI development team.
The car project is part of Apple’s efforts to expand its operations. Over the years, the company has continuously developed different business segments, including Apple Watch, which supports health monitoring. Most recently, Apple also attacked the augmented reality market with Vision Pro glasses.
