Carroll Shelby – Living legend of the American car industry

He has been famous as a great racing driver since the late 50s the early 60s. Shelby won the Le Mans races. The 260/289 Cobra he designed was the fastest car in the world in the mid-60s. He was also the one who helped Ford turned the Mustang into a legend.

Now, at the age of 83, Shelby is devoting herself to developing an auto accessories production line and opening a center. “car tuning” as required.

Recently at the Exhibition car tuning show SEMA just took place in Las Vegas USA legendary Carroll Shelby had a a short conversation with a reporter from Business Week about the “wild horse” Mustang of the past and present, the current state of the American car industry, and his favorite American cars.< /p>

With nearly 50 years of experience with the American car industry (since the 60s), do you have any comments on the current situation of car manufacturers? American car exports in the current turbulent period?

American auto companies currently are in difficult times. Because foreign companies don’t have unions like the US, they don’t have to worry about issues like health insurance or pensions. Although it is an unequal battle and there will be many challenges ahead, I believe that American companies can overcome this difficult period.

After participating in this year’s SEMA Exhibition, what do you think about the current “car customization” trend?

 < /p>

This exhibition brings together more than 100,000 manufacturers, but no one has the same opinion about car decoration and design. However, everyone wants to have a dream car. They want to create a personal impression so that when driving on the street, the car will attract all eyes. I think this is great.

Looking back at the brilliant success of the line Mustang cars from their inception in the 60s to recent years, why do you think Americans are so fascinated by this car?

I thinks the main reason is because it has always made a difference over the past 40 years. Right here at the SEMA Show I can see that more parts are made for Mustangs than for any other car. This explains why this car model is so popular.

He thinks the new GT500 model will taste How is it positioned in the history of the Mustang?

 >

This cannot be said with certainty. But I have never seen a car listed for $42,000 bring in an additional $45,000. When you buy a car for $40,000 and then sell it for $90,000, either we priced the car too low or the car itself is too special.</p >

How did you feel when you witnessed Ford’s stop producing GT supercars from  this fall?

 < /span>

I always say that when you produce a car model that is a huge success, you should not continue to produce it. I “begged” Dodge to stop producing Viper cars but they didn’t listen and tried to produce until no one wanted to buy them anymore.

Ford only produces cars The GT is available in very limited numbers and in my opinion is a smart way to increase the car’s value over the years. I think Ford cars GT will make its mark in history with its own difference.

 </ p>

Year Today I am 83 years old and if I live to be 183 years old, I will not be able to realize all my ideas. Every morning I wake up with new ideas. Unfortunately, many ideas will never come true. But even so, I never stop imagining new car models.

One final question throughout his career he influenced most from whom?

The biggest influence on me? That’s me.
