Meeting artist Le Quoc Nam backstage at a theater stage in Ho Chi Minh City – where he has been quietly contributing as a director for many years, we were quite surprised because The male artist’s rustic and simple look from the way he speaks to the way he dresses.
On screen, artist Le Quoc Nam is often associated with rustic roles. In real life, he went through bankruptcy because of business lost nearly 10 billion VND. But the male artist reiterated everything with a light attitude…
Loss of nearly 10 billion VND and bankruptcy at the age of U60
Once known He is a famous antique “player” who owns a large house in the world, but when his business failed, Le Quoc Nam almost “lost everything. Looking back, do you have any regrets?
– Although the business was not successful, I am very satisfied. I have fulfilled my long-time dream of doing business, so I have nothing to regret. Not every dream has a happy ending, right?
Of course, if a large fortune is lost, everyone will be sad. All my money and wealth were wasted and there was nothing left. I still think about this sometimes, but when asked if I regret it, I’m sure I don’t.
That means failure but nothing too terrible for you?
– I see that failure as an adventure for myself. venture into new fields. I sold all my assets to pay off debt and rebuild my career and life. Now I accept “wholeheartedness” for art.
Almost 60 years old and having to “start over” is this easy for you?
– I do it to get back what I lost rather than “starting from scratch”. I lost money, but I did not lose the foundation of my will and efforts.
But through my story, I just want to remind young people that Le Quoc Nam once “had nothing.” ” but still exists because he has a profession. I feel lucky that even though my business failed, I still have an artistic job to revive, otherwise it would be very difficult…
So young people, no matter how high-flying or adventurous they are, still need have a job in hand. Doing a job doesn’t necessarily make you rich, but it helps you make enough to take care of your wife and children.
How did you manage when you were in debt?
– After When I “let go” of my business, the Covid-19 epidemic made life even more difficult. However, because it was difficult, I had a strong will and determination.
I lost nearly 10 billion VND, not a lot. Luckily, I had assets so I sold them all to pay off my debt. Selling all my houses and cars also means I’m out of debt and don’t need to borrow from anyone.
Successfully cutting debt, I see as a walk towards my dream of being converted by that amount of money. Actually, if I hadn’t failed at that time, I would have continued to dream another dream with that money.
At that time, it was rumored that Le Quoc Nam was involved in gambling and gambling, so he went bankrupt and destroyed his house?
– Life will always be There are people who love you and people who hate you, so never let others see that you have “wounds”. People who love you will understand what that wound is like. People who hate you will pick up those wounds.
So it’s best not to let others know what problem you’re having. Because if you’re rich, it’s your money, but if you’re poor, no one can help…

How has Le Quoc Nam experienced life events in recent years?
– I don’t have much free time because of my acting schedule quite thick. I’m miserable so I have to plow more (laughs). I do many things from directing actors to teaching. However, the income still depends on the contribution film is the main thing. Teaching doesn’t have much income, but I want to do it because it’s my passion.
I don’t consider myself good, but I’m confident that I have a lot of experience teaching in the classroom. I’m not the kind of person who hides my job. If I study for 1 hour, I’ll get 4 years of experience, so I always try to keep this job.
He said, “Because I’m miserable, I plow.” a lot” is it because I’m under a lot of economic pressure?
– That’s just a simile, but I never like to “complain about poverty and misery” to anyone. People may look at me and see that I am miserable and miserable, but I see that my life is still enough.
Pressure follows us all our lives, not necessarily during this period. I think I also need pressure to develop and go further with what I have done. At this age, I want to learn and improve more. Currently, I am still the family’s economic breadwinner.
After the failure that year, are you still in business?
– I’m no longer in business for a long time. I realized that when people who make art go into business, they are still very bad. I only work and invest for my own “happiness”, but strategic calculations are still lacking. I feel like I’m not suitable for business anymore.
What about your passion for collecting antiques?
– I gave it all up! The day the business closed, I walked out without taking anything. I gave all the decorations and antiques I had collected to my students and decided to leave empty-handed.
I remember that day I came home, went straight to my room and stayed there for 3 days straight. Those days I didn’t contact or talk to anyone. When it’s time to eat, someone brings it to the room.
What did you think during those 3 days?
– I didn’t think about anything (laughs) just slept, ate and watched movies.< /p>
People say “when you’re in trouble, you know who your friends are, when you’re in trouble, you know who you are” What about Le Quoc Nam?
– If you are If you give 10,000 VND, don’t think about getting it back. In my life, I have never expected to receive back what I gave.
So when I fall into a crisis, I don’t expect anyone to help. Instead I rely on myself. I even hope that people don’t see me suffering. Why let others see you suffer?
How did your wife and children accompany you during the difficult period?
– Until now, most of my colleagues in the audience knew little about my wife and children. Because I have never mentioned my family to the media. Most of my family, from my parents, siblings to my wife and children, do business, so I don’t want to affect their lives.
The life of an artist doesn’t always go smoothly. I don’t want others to rely on my mistakes to affect my loved ones. Social networks are very dangerous now. If they hate you, they will do everything to bring you down.
Experience Having suffered two strokes and nearly dying due to overwork, how aware are you now of maintaining your health?
– Remember to take your medicine regularly, don’t be reckless or lazy. However, my current health is fine and there is nothing to worry about.
With a long career in the profession and extensive experience in teaching, how does Le Quoc Nam comment on the generation of artists? Young scholars today?
– You are now very smart, educated and have access to many new things. But if you don’t study well, you will easily be “illusioned” because your chances of becoming famous are easier than in our time.
The “virtual” here is that some people think they are truly successful when they are known by many people. In fact, it is just “virtual” fame through technology. The road to success in art is still very long. But above all, I advise you to have good skills to stick with the profession for a long time.
Artistic activities at the same time as many other famous names, but artist Le Quoc Nam is not seen “flaunting” his image or success. achieve my career?
– Both on stage and off, I live a very simple life. Other artists always appear in classy clothes, but I wear whatever I want without taking my appearance seriously.
I’m straightforward and don’t like anyone praising or paying too much attention to me. As long as I continue to work, the audience knows my product and accepts it, that’s enough. I don’t need anyone to call me an artist, just calling me by my name is enough.
