Director Vinh Son: There are question marks when hearing news about “Southern Forest Land”

As a pioneer, how did you feel when watching the movie cinema “Southern Forest Land” when both were inspired by the work of writer Doan Gioi?

– People often think film Vietnamese is very long, but after watching half of the film, I clearly saw that the content had been carefully screened. Outstanding details in the film are carefully and delicately selected.

Southern Forest Land captures the river scenery and the generous and kind personality of the Western people… The film has been completed mission in that context and space with a clear cinematic language.

The crew really brought a different image with a different look when remaking. Nguyen Quang Dung’s cinematic language shows that the same characters and story bring new emotions and new meanings to viewers.

When “Southern Forest Land” When it hits theaters, it’s inevitable that audiences will make comparisons with the TV version 26 years ago. As a director of a famous TV version, how do you accept this comparison?

– The movie version Southern Forest Land emphasized more about national pride, giving viewers a feeling of suspense and emotion as the story develops. It is a process of commendable creative efforts of the Southern Forest Land crew.

At first when he knew that someone wanted to make a movie “Southern Forest Land”, what was director Nguyen Vinh Son’s first thought?

– At first When I heard that someone wanted to make a movie version, I, like many people, had questions, including some doubts like: “What’s the point of making a remake?” What if a TV series is brought to theaters? and “Does it have anything new to do again?”… Not to mention that modern life is not very favorable for the filmmaking scene.

I think the crew of Southern Forest Land also encountered similar challenges in finding a new look compared to the TV version. When I watch it, I see new things that really have new interesting points. I think this is a success.

According to you, the easy and difficult points for the “follower” – director Nguyen Quang Dung – when working on the Southern region after nearly 30 years are What?

– These are limitations of context and space. Even a thatched roof becomes as precious as “gold” while in my time, those things were all available in the Southern region and still existed like that.

In return, the Southern Forest Land crew has the advantage of improvements in modern equipment. To be honest, there are things that Southern Land cannot do, such as large sets or grandiose staging scenes.

Dramas at that time were still limited in terms of content. The budget did not allow me to do those things, but now Nguyen Quang Dung’s team has done it.

Some viewers commented that the color of the movie “Southern Forest Land” had technical intervention, making the river scene become inauthentic. How do you personally feel?

– It’s good! Viewers change every day, requiring film producers to produce products that suit today’s audience tastes.

In addition, some loyal viewers of “Southern Land” were also quite disappointed when they saw that “Southern Forest Land” Ut Trong’s female lead position was redirected to Tu Mam. or the character Ut Luc Lam becomes An’s companion but is not Co. What does the director think about this?

– The difficulty when converting a TV series into a movie is knowing what to target and which character.

< p>Southern Forest Land‘s story building between An and Ut Luc Lam is also good. A wandering child is taken care of by a thief, this brings new stories with their own charm.

And when successfully building a pair of characters An – Ut Luc Lam according to The line you want, of course, must have “sacrifice” that cannot be contained and covered by all the remaining characters.

In addition, moviegoers can see that the director’s intention is to save it for future parts. The open ending revealed a bit of the back story and there will be new characters appearing.
