Fight the aging process with sweet basil

Sweet/holy basil is a close relative of basil – an herb often used in Italian recipes. Europeans and also present in Asian dishes. Indians often grow sweet basil around churches or temples. The clove-scented herb is used to treat diabetes.

Originating from India sweet basil extract has long been used in traditional Ayurvedic medicine of India and other parts of Asia as a remedy to prolong youth.

In the first formal study of this herb, pharmaceutical researchers have found that sweet basil extract is effective in protection against cancer-causing chemicals that attack vital organs such as the heart, liver and brain and damage genes and nerve cells.

Group  research led by Dr. Vaibhav Shinde of Poona College of Pharmacy, Maharashtra State, India, has researched the antioxidant and anti-aging effects of this vegetable. They presented their findings at the British Pharmaceutical Conference held in the English city of Manchester.

Dr. Shinde said: “The study confirms the efficacy of using this traditional herb as a youth-promoting agent. in Ayurvedic medicine. It also helps describe drug reactions at the cellular level. We obtained interesting results. I myself am also using basil in my dishes and I hope it will bring many benefits.”

This herb has the Latin name Ocimum sanctum and is also called tulsi by Indians and has long been grown in ceramic pots by Indians. keep in the house and garden.
