Fish fall from the sky like rain in an Australian town

ABC News reported that people in the town of Lajamanu in Australia’s Northern Territory over the weekend had witnessed a rain of fish pouring down on the area.

Many people were surprised to encounter a strange weather phenomenon, but this was not the first time Lajamanu witnessed this. The town recorded similar incidents in 2010, 2004 and 1974.

Andrew Johnson Japanangka, Lajamanu local councilor, said: “We saw a big storm approaching the community.” field and we thought it was just rain. But when the rain started falling we also saw fish falling.”

Queensland Museum expert Jeff Johnson said the type of fish that fell was Spotted perch are the size of a child’s palm. After one night, the people of Lajamanu discovered fish scattered throughout the town, many of which were still alive. Spotted perch is one of the most popular freshwater fish in Australia.

Around the world, the phenomenon of fish falling from the sky has been recorded in some areas. Not only fish, many places have also witnessed rain with frogs, worms, bats and spiders falling.

The exact reason for the fish rain phenomenon has not been clearly explained. Weather experts hypothesize that incidents like this could be caused by strong winds such as tornadoes that suck up water and animals from rivers and release them hundreds of kilometers away.< /p>

I’ve seen small ponds that were literally drained of water by a passing tornado. So it’s not unusual for frogs (or other living creatures) to fall like rain from from the sky,” researcher Ernest Agee from Purdue University wrote in a report.
