Honda’s first V8 VTEC engine costs as much as two small cars

Honda has never built a V8 engine for car outside the racetrack but has just introduced a V8 engine using continuously variable valve timing technology on intake valves (VTEC) for water vehicles.< /p>

Specifically it is for yachts longer than 7 6 meters and promises to provide both good performance while providing smooth power and fuel economy.

The BF350 engine uses Honda’s famous VTEC technology using a light cam configuration (with an early intake valve closing point) that will operate well at low rpm and high output cam configuration at higher rpm.

Honda has also integrated a low-speed torque maximization system (BLAST) to enhance ignition timing when the operator presses full throttle.

A number of other technologies have also been developed to improve fuel efficiency. Lean Burn technology, for example, adjusts the air/fuel mixture according to speed and load while the fuel injection system is programmed to deliver just the right amount of fuel and air to each cylinder.< /p>

Honda’s friction reduction technology adds ion plating to the piston rings and also contributes to this engine’s high performance.

Complementing the V8 is Honda’s intelligent Shift & Throttle (iST) steering and control system is operated via a top-mounted controller with separate buttons for the optional Trim Support and Auto leveling assistance modes. Tilt) cruise control (Cruise Control) and fishing mode (Trolling Mode).

The BF350 marine motor is neither light nor cheap. Specifically, the lightest version weighs about 347kg and although Honda has not officially announced the price, it was recently revealed that this engine will cost up to 46,000 USD.
