BKED ( stands for Bach Khoa Editor) is the first Vietnamese editing software. This application was introduced by Mr. Ngoc in 1987 and became the editing software at many state universities until 1995.
When talking about BKED, Dr. Quach Tuan Ngoc said he had two memories with this software. The first was when he used BKED to edit The second time was when I used this software to prepare a conference conclusion document at the Ministry of Education and Training at the end of 1989. Previously, printing a document after a meeting took 5 days thanks to this software just after the meeting ended. The printed version has been prepared.
BKED has a capacity of only about 200KB and can be saved on a floppy disk for use anywhere. According to Mr. Ngoc, this is the reason that brought BKED to success. This is also the first commercial software. At that time, even though the selling price was up to 15 million VND, it was still a hot item and was purchased by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Forestry, Ministry of Science and Technology…. No sales figures were announced, but Mr. Ngoc estimated that about 120,000 user manuals were sold.
Dr. Quach Tuan Ngoc graduated from Hanoi University of Science and Technology in 1978, majoring in Broadcast Electronics. In 1986, he received his doctorate from Grenoble Institute of Technology, France. From 1979 to 2007, he was a lecturer at Polytechnic University. From 1996 to 2007, he was Director of the IT Center of the Ministry of Education and Training.
In addition to BKED, he is also the author of educational materials PASCAL C C++ Digital signal management and software development language.
BKED is no longer available use anymore. Mr. Quach Tuan Ngoc is also dedicated to his new job as Director of the IT Department of the Ministry of Education and Training.

Graduated from Hanoi – Amsterdam math major Pham Kim Long passed the university entrance exam Studied Hanoi Polytechnic Information Technology class in 1991. At that time, information technology was still a new field. In 1996, Pham Kim Long graduated with honors and went to the Czech Republic. Unikey was conceived by Pham Kim Long in 1994 under a another name. However, it was not until the end of 2000 that he publicly announced this software. The first version was written for DOS in 1994 when he was a Polytechnic student. According to Pham Kim Long: “At that time in the class there were two or three other students who also wrote their own keyboards using Assembly. From there, a “competition” arose to see who could write the smallest… program. His keyboard version (named TVNBK) is only 2KB. UniKey’s current Vietnamese diacritic processing algorithm is basically the same as that Assembly program.”
The first Unikey software for Windows launched in 1998 with the name LittleVnKey but it was not popular and did not support Unicode. At the end of 2000, when he was working on his thesis, he visited a computer forum and saw many people discussing Vietnamese Unicode in Windows. The idea of a free keyboard supporting Unicode was born from there.
After one night of designing and two nights of encoding the first Unikey version was born supporting Vietnamese Unicode. Long quickly announced them and continuously updated them after about the first 4 months. Besides many suggestions to improve UniKey, it also received many detractors and even spread rumors that there was a virus attached inside. However, the simplicity and ease of use is what has helped UniKey become the most popular Vietnamese percussion keyboard on computers since 2004. However, Pham Kim Long shared: “I will always maintain UniKey as free software.” fee”.
20 years have passed, many of his contemporaries are settling down in life with a management job. Pham Kim Long still dedicated to his new battle. Currently, he is leading a team developing mobile applications in Vietnam. Laban Key for Android is remarkable software. Launched last year, this application has continuously reached the top of the most downloaded utilities on Google Play Store with 500,000 users (as of early March 2014).
Inheriting UniKey Laban Key on Android, easy to use with interface compatible with many screen sizes. This free software is downloaded by many Vietnamese users and is the main choice for editing on smartphones and tablets. The father of Unikey wants Laban Key to also have the same position on mobile devices as Unikey on desktop computers.
Truong Minh Nhat Quang with D32 Anti-virus
Early Windows users must be very familiar with D32 Anti-virus. This is famous software by Truong Minh Nhat Quang. In 2003, he was awarded the title of IT Knight in 2003 thanks to this software.
Truong Minh Nhat Quang grew up in Ha Tien . He was born into a family of 8 children. Until he was 14 years old, he had to work to make a living. In the years after the war, he had to sell bread for the family and dozens of different jobs before graduating from high school with honors.
In 1985, he passed the entrance exam to Can Tho University after self-study. Graduated with an excellent working degree at Ha Tien High School. Married and living in difficult circumstances, he still registered to study computer science in Ho Chi Minh City.
In 1992 when he discovered The office computer was infected with a virus and the idea of a software began to arise in him. After 4 months of hard work, he successfully compiled the Dir2/FAT anti-virus program and named it D2. Many subsequent viruses were updated into his software.
In 2000, he stopped D2 running on the DOS platform and switched to building D32 Anti Virus. The software was launched on February 20, 2001, coinciding with his birthday, and became Vietnam’s first Windows-based antivirus.
August 2004 Truong Minh Nhat Quang announced the D32 update with virus identification technology using a machine learning approach. In November 2009, a new version of D32 software appeared again. A year later, the D32 team and Truong Minh Nhat Quang updated the new version of D32 with many improvements to better compatible with the operating system and some software.
Currently Truong Minh Nhat Quang is living with his wife and children in Can Tho working at Can Tho University of Technology (formerly Can Tho In-service University Center). Due to being busy with his personal life and scientific research, his “child” D32 also suddenly appeared on the market.
