– Sometimes I think I should try changing my stage name without telling anyone so that people can try to approach my songs from a different perspective instead of Let’s see the familiar thoughts from before (laughs).
It seems like Hua Kim Tuyen in real life is very different from the audience’s imagination of you in music?

– Correct. When people meet me, they are often very shocked because they think I’m a quiet and unapproachable person. But actually I’m always full of energy. If I compare, I feel like I’m just like a cartoon character who keeps “chattering” (laughs). Many people don’t even believe that I’m the one who wrote those songs.
Last September, the song “Sashimi” (performed by Chi Pu) faced controversy saying that the lyrics were offensive. As a musician, Hua Kim Tuyen explained the realistic meaning of the song, which is about cuisine, but still could not convince the majority of the audience?
– I am the one praying town. Perhaps the lyrics of the song “Sashimi” are not appropriate Asian culture makes people see it as wrong. It was my fault and I will learn from it so that the following products do not fall into this same trap again.

– I think Vietnamese audiences do not understand and clearly distinguish concepts in music. What people call plagiarism is mainly a similarity in harmony. When they see a harmony, they assume it’s plagiarism, copying ideas. But in fact, this is normal because the easy-to-listen harmonies used a lot in Pop music are only available in a certain quantity. If analyzing the issue of plagiarism, many factors must be considered, from harmony, melody, rhythm, arrangement to genre.
Every time I get into an argument, I patiently explain and gradually everyone will understand. What people don’t know that I know, I should be responsible for popularizing.

From The guy who studied journalism became the second most successful musician in Vpop. How did that process happen?
– Honestly, the fate that led me to music is also quite funny . In middle school, there was a time when my class had an art competition but couldn’t choose a song. Then I went to YouTube to find beats and compose music myself. But the irony is that my class was failed just because I sang a song that no one knew.
In the years that followed, I persisted in writing music until I was recognized in 10th grade. Even though I studied communications in college, I still participated in art clubs and studied music theory.
In 2016, I took the “Sing my song” exam. Even though the appearance was very faint, perhaps it was a milestone that made me more motivated to pursue music. I realized I couldn’t have “two feet in two boats”, so I decided to make a big break from the media industry to focus on writing music.
As a layman, I switched to a career in production. Why did Hua Kim Tuyen succeed so quickly?
– I must say that my years of pursuing journalism and media have helped me make connections in the entertainment industry. That is my huge advantage. One time I went to interview Toc Tien. Coincidentally, “The Voice” contestant on her team was practicing a song I composed. When I said “this song I wrote”, Ms. Tien was very surprised and asked me to send her a demo for her to listen to.
That was also the chance for the song “I’m so lonely today” by I was performed by Ms. Toc Tien. Then after that time I also had a few projects with other singers. When I was 22 years old, I started working as a musician and didn’t have much income, but I had enough to live on.

– People say I’m a hitmaker (person who creates hit songs – PV). That’s because they don’t know the number of my failed songs (laughs). But I think every song has a destiny, maybe it’s not popular yet because it’s not the right time. There are also explosive songs beyond my imagination. That’s the fun of anything that’s predictable but it’s not fun (laughs).
A “hot” musician like Hua Kim Tuyen would definitely be compensated for composing or copyrighting. will be “huge”?
– From the time I wrote music until now, I have never thought I had to get rich. I simply make music, I earn enough money to live. Money has never been a burden to me. It’s not that my family is rich, but I think that life needs are very simple.
Of course, when making music, you have to negotiate the price, but I have never placed much emphasis on that issue and am even willing to lower the price and give songs to singers to support them.
Compared to the beginning, how is Hua Kim Tuyen’s current income?
– Both song fees and royalties have increased up about 10 times (laughs). After 5 years of making music, I also had savings to help my family buy a house and car. But I still have to borrow money from the bank rather than be able to pay it all off (laughs).

Recently, the song “Temptation” (Lady May performed in “The Mask Singer”) also encountered some suspicions that Hua Kim Tuyen “learned” from “Forever and one ” or “Sky fall”. How do you explain?
– This continues to be the story that listeners, because they have not been exposed to many genres of music, only need the similarity in the spirit of the song. is that they have accused them of plagiarism and copying. These songs all have the same atmosphere of a fiery, magical feeling. This genre is quite rare in Vietnam. That’s why when listening to “Temptation”, the audience can easily compare it with international songs.

– There is no such thing. Who do I prioritize? I write music then send the demo to the producer and the producer sends it to the singers. Any singer who likes it will “close the order” first. I never knew who would choose to sing my song. This is also the case where I want to try to see what the “fate” of the song would be if I wasn’t the one who decided who sang. – Competition is of course there, but it’s all healthy competition. Like we will strive to make good music to be like you or even better than you. Artists are people with sensitive souls who want to be recognized for their abilities instead of tricks.
A part of the audience still does not have a correct view of the role of musicians. When thinking of a hit song, they often remember the singer more. Do you feel sad about that?
– I don’t care about that. What I care about is the product I create and reputation will come gradually. Spiritually speaking, if you care too much about money and fame, then… your nest will not be saved (laughs).
Hua Kim Tuyen’s works, whether happy or sad, all have colors. dreamy color. How do you bring your romance and dreaminess into your music?
– I’ve heard people say my music is a bit too high-flown, unrealistic, and lacking in depth. in. But there is a song that truly reflects my spirit: “this life is pink”. I think I have found my own slice through which I receive the audience’s sympathy.
My life has also experienced many losses. My father passed away when he was 18 years old. The family went through many events. My grandparents were no longer there. But I think life is still beautiful. Every day I look for positive stories on social networks from the lives of people around me. Those things affect me more than the negative things.
Of course, everyone has a dark side and there are times when they want to scream and curse the whole world. But I still think that “toxic” things only exist online. That’s where people who don’t know anyone can easily reveal their “child” side. In real life, people’s behavior in society is still very “human”.
But how long will Hua Kim Tuyen keep that flutter?
– 5 years ago my ex-lover once told me that to see me I still see how rosy life will last, especially when I work in a showbiz environment – a place with very high competition. But now I still assert that nothing has changed. Some people say it’s because I’m at the peak of my career that I see things so brightly. But no, that’s my nature.
No matter how abundant creative inspiration is, there will be a time when it runs out. What does Hua Kim Tuyen think?
– Creative energy, if cultivated, can last a long time. I rarely depend on others because I always seek inspiration from everything around me from my own experiences.
But the rule of life is that when we get older, our creative energy also gets older. Everyone gets to that stage. The important thing is what do I do at that time? If one day I can no longer be creative, I will pass on my experiences to the next generation to help young people.
