Following the plum season, the brilliant yellow plum gardens are a place that many tourists love to experience and take photos of when coming to Moc Chau around the beginning of July.
Yellow plums are very wrong fruit and eye-catching colors so it will be a beautiful backdrop for photos. When I posted photos at the yellow plum garden, friends everywhere were also interested in asking for address information,” said Quang Kien, a local photographer.
According to local people, yellow plum, also known as astringent plum, was previously grown very popularly in Moc Chau. However, since the introduction of plums, yellow plums have gradually been cut down because the fruit has a sour taste and is not as sweet and delicious as plums.
Currently, there are not many remaining yellow plum trees in Moc Chau. Phuong Anh plum garden of Mr. Dinh Van Phuong’s family in Phieng Khoang plum valley, about 6km from Moc Chau town center, is a rare place with more than 30 yellow plum trees bearing fruit.
Mr. Phuong said these plum trees are more than 10 years old. As a long-standing type of plum in Moc Chau, yellow plums adapt well to the climate and terrain and do not require much care to still yield high yields. On average, each tree in the garden can yield 2 quintals of fruit.
Compared to plums, yellow plums have not as high economic value as only about 5,000-6,000 VND/kg for small wholesale, about 10,000 VND/kg for large fruits.
Sour yellow plums are slightly astringent, so those who are fans of sour foods can dip them with shrimp salt. In addition, this type of plum is often purchased to soak in wine to make apricot fruit…
Yellow plum gardens are considered by local photographers to be a beautiful backdrop for taking photos. Recently, some gardens that still own yellow plums have opened their doors to welcome visitors to check-in.
The cost to enter the garden is equivalent to that of plum gardens, about 30,000 VND/person. Visitors can pick fruit and enjoy it as they like. If you buy yellow plums and bring them home, the price to enter the garden is 10,000 VND/kg.
The remaining yellow plum gardens are currently in Phieng Khoang plum valley located in Muong Sang commune, Moc Chau town, about 6km from the center of Moc Chau town.
The road to the valley has been poured with concrete about 2m wide, suitable for both motorbikes and cars. However, there are still steep sections along the way. Some points in the valley have quite weak phone signal.
