IS confirms supreme leader’s death, announces new terrorist boss

IS on August 3 confirmed that Abu Hussein al-Husseini al-Qurashi was killed. The terrorist group also announced that Abu Hafs al-Hashimi al-Qurashi would be the next leader.  

IS said al-Husseini al-Qurashi died in a direct confrontation with the Islamist group Hayat Tahrir al-Sham in Idlib province in northeastern Syria.

IS’s announcement did not specify when the group’s supreme leader was killed.

At the end of April, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that Abu Hussein al-Qurashi was killed in the attack. an attack by Turkish intelligence in Syria. “This guy was destroyed in the operation of the Turkish national intelligence organization in Syria on April 29,” Mr. Erdogan announced.

IS chose Abu Hussein al-Husseini al-Qurashi leader in November 2022 after the previous leader of ISIS was killed in a battle in southern Syria.

At that time, the IS spokesman called on members of the organization in all countries pledging allegiance to al-Quraishi said he was “one of the loyal sons of IS”.

At its peak in 2014 IS occupied areas vast land in Iraq and Syria and IS leader at the time Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi declared the creation of a so-called Islamic caliphate throughout the territory inhabited by millions of people.

However, IS was gradually destroyed in the face of the US anti-terrorism campaign in Syria and Iraq as well as attacks by Syrian President al-Assad’s government forces backed by Russia and Iran.
