Japanese star Minamino bid farewell to Liverpool

According to Dailymail, French club Monaco has agreed to a deal worth 18 million euros with Liverpool to sign Takumi Minamino. The Ligue 1 team will have to pay an initial amount of 15 million euros and 3 million euros for additional terms.

The Japanese striker has agreed personal terms with AS Monaco and awaiting medical examination procedures before joining the French team.

Minamino has been playing for Liverpool since January 2020 after parting ways with Red Bull Salzburg. He made 55 appearances for Liverpool and scored 14 goals. The 27-year-old striker spent the second half of the 2020/21 season on loan at Southampton scoring 2 goals in 10 matches Premier League before returning to Anfield last summer.

Season 2021/22 Minamino appeared in 22 matches in all competitions scoring 10 goals including important goals on “The Kop”‘s journey to winning the FA Cup and League Cup. He wants to play more to make his mark in important matches.

However, Minamino does not seem to be in coach Jurgen Klopp’s plans because of this summer’s transfer window. Liverpool has recruited strikers Fabio Carvalho and Darwin Nunez.

Minamino once left a special mark at Salzburg Club. Over 5 seasons in Austria, Minamino played 189 matches and scored 64 goals. However, the stability of the trio of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane meant that Minamino did not have the opportunity to start at Liverpool.

Minamino shared with Sanspo newspaper about leaving Liverpool this summer: “There are many matches that I play that don’t interest anyone. Even when I score, no one is happy. I’m trying to inspire myself to prove I’m training myself differently from group training.

I thought I would leave something behind when it comes to the game in terms of spirit I feel regret and anger every day. I never had much playing time as a player. It was difficult to maintain my condition and connect with my emotions so I had to leave.”
