– I once thought about quitting my job because of my appearance. At that time, show bosses often went to schools to look for outstanding faces. When they saw me performing, they told me to meet them after I finished performing.
When I got off stage to remove all my makeup, they told me to give them their phone number to call later. I was so happy that I waited until later to find out that they just said that but they would never call because my appearance was not handsome.
At that time, I was 1.7 m tall, weighed 53 kg, and was very thin and ugly. I was so disappointed that I decided to quit my job to teach. But thanks to that, I was able to work in Mr. Huu Loc’s theater group and continue to work until now.
Confessing that he has a “special” appearance and is not handsome, where does the name Long “Handsome” come from?< /p>
– Because I felt I was so ugly, I took the special name Long “Handsome” (laughs). Artist Viet Huong – then a schoolmate – also said I was “crazy or something to take that name”.

I bought a pair of tickets and invited my parents to see them. They said there were many famous artists. This was also the first time my parents saw me performing comedy on stage.
When I was in school, it was so difficult that I had to sell my Dream car to buy a cheaper car. After watching my performance, my parents asked me to go home. Dad said that after all, I’m an artist and I can’t drive that car. Dad took me to the back of the house and there was a new Dream ready for me. I just realized that my parents have accepted me to follow the path of art.
For me, the Dream car that my parents gave me is a valuable reminder of encouragement, so I decided to keep it with me no matter how old it is. go on. Unfortunately, that car was later stolen by thieves.

The group has 10 members including Mr. Huu Loc. He was originally a “son of the family” so he calculated and the whole group joined together to form the New Smile theater group. At first, the group had many difficulties and disbanded, with only 3 members left: myself, Mr. Huu Loc, Mr. Le Hoang, and then we met Mr. Hoai Linh.
We gradually went up and overcame all difficulties. then built the New Smile stage. After a long period of intense activity, the stage disbanded because it had a solid “foundation” but no successor class.
Before closing, New Smile stage closed How difficult is it?
– I once promised the late artist Huu Loc (founder of the New Smile theater who passed away in 2010 – PV) before he died that I would will try our best to maintain this stage. But later on, I couldn’t bear the burden when the performances gradually had fewer audiences, and my promise to him had to be left unfinished.
My stage originally had top names like Hoai Linh. Chi Tai Truong Giang later added Nam Thu Quach Ngoc Tuyen Hua Minh Dat… but the artists all had their own reasons for leaving the stage.
I have received phone calls from audiences asking if artist Hoai Linh Chi Tai is performing today. If not, they won’t come. It’s truly heartbreaking.
New Smile had 3 years of hardship before officially closing. At that time, I put all the capital I had saved over the years into the stage to “play until the end”. After the stage closed, I still owed 200 million VND in cash for the stage.

– Nowadays, theater business faces many difficulties. Drama is gradually receding, many audiences are no longer excited to go to the stage to watch plays. A stage without plays or without “stars” to attract customers is difficult to maintain.

– I see many artists responding to the press that they love theater and are passionate about theater and want to save the stage.
