Former President Donald Trump has accused the Democrats of orchestrating a “coup” to force President Joe Biden out of the 2024 race, while also criticizing Biden’s latest speech.
“I think it’s a coup. They don’t want him to run. Joe Biden’s poll numbers are plummeting, and they think he will lose,” Trump declared on Fox & Friends on July 25.
According to Trump, Democratic members have informed Biden that he cannot win the White House unless Trump “does something very foolish.
“But of course, I won’t do that. I think Biden must be very frustrated hearing such things. The presidential debate started it all,” Trump added. Many people, including Nancy Pelosi and Barack Obama, also want him to step aside. They’re just good actors. They say they love him, but I know they are ruthless.”
Trump’s remarks came after President Biden spoke publicly for the first time since announcing his withdrawal from the race. Biden stated his decision to step down was to pass the torch to the younger generation, endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris as his successor.
The 11-minute speech saw Biden seated in the Oval Office, surrounded by his family and senior advisors.
“Horrible speech, terrible delivery,” Trump remarked. “It looked like he was struggling, and the speech was lackluster. What’s happening is so fake; anyone can see through it.”
Referring to Harris, Trump stated, “I know a coup has taken place. Harris might have been aware of it. She is benefiting from it,” the former president claimed.
The White House and Harris’s office have yet to respond to Trump’s comments.
Biden is the first incumbent president to not seek re-election since 1968. His decision followed pressure from numerous Democratic lawmakers urging him to withdraw due to his poor performance in the debate with Trump.
Biden’s withdrawal has disrupted Trump’s campaign strategy, which focused on the President’s age and mental acuity. Trump, now 78, remains the oldest presidential candidate in U.S. history.
