Vice President Kamala Harris is currently leading former President Donald Trump in five out of seven key battleground states and is tied with him in one, according to a recent survey by the Cook Political Report (CPR) released on August 14th.
The survey reveals that across the pivotal states of Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin, Harris holds a narrow one-point lead over Trump, with the polling numbers standing at 48% for Harris compared to 47% for Trump.
Meanwhile, 5% of respondents indicated they are either undecided or do not plan to vote.
Breaking down the results by state, Harris edges ahead of Trump in five battleground states, and the two are locked in a dead heat in Georgia. Trump, however, maintains a slim lead over Harris in Nevada, though the gap is closing.
Specifically, Harris leads Trump by three points in both Michigan and Wisconsin. This marks a significant shift since May when Trump was ahead of Biden by two points in Michigan and was tied with the President in Wisconsin.
In Arizona, Harris is two points ahead of Trump, overturning the former President’s previous one-point lead over Biden in the state. North Carolina, which once saw Trump with a seven-point advantage in May, now sees Harris pulling ahead. In Pennsylvania, where Trump previously led Biden by three points, Harris has now taken a one-point lead.
In Georgia, both candidates are neck and neck, each securing 48% of the vote. This marks a change from the previous survey, where Trump had a three-point lead over Biden in the state.
Harris’s lead widens further when third-party candidates are factored into the survey, notably including independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. Under these circumstances, Harris leads Trump by two points across the seven battleground states, four points in Arizona, and five points in both Pennsylvania and Wisconsin.
Since launching her campaign on July 21st, Harris has dramatically shifted the dynamics in both national and battleground state polls. According to data averaged from 114 national polls compiled by The Hill/Decision Desk HQ, Harris leads Trump by 1.4 percentage points.
