On September 28, the People’s Court of Ho Chi Minh City opened a trial and convicted defendant Hoang Thi Minh Hong (51 years old, founder and Director of the Center for Action and Linkage for Environment and Development – CHANGE) 3 five years in prison for tax evasion.
According to the indictment, since 2012, the Center for Action and Linkage for Environment and Development – CHANGE has generated 69 billion in revenue but Ms. Hong directed the staff failure to issue value-added tax invoices and tax declarations… tax evasion of more than 6.7 billion VND.
During the investigation and trial, the defendant admitted all violations. Defendant Hong admitted that this money arose from the center’s service activities and was not money received from organizations and individuals abroad. Currently, she has overcome 3.5 billion VND. The defendant said he would encourage his family and friends to recover the remaining amount.
The defendant’s mistake was that he was too focused on professional issues and did not update his information. Knowing about taxes and having to stand before court today is a very valuable lesson,” defendant Hong said and asked the court to consider a low sentence so he can return to his family soon and continue to contribute to society.
According to Ms. Hong, the case is not only a lesson for herself but also for organizations that are solving social problems that need to fully fulfill their obligations to the State during their operations.
