In the period 1890-1910, the signal pole was rebuilt with 35m high iron and added a flag raising platform. The pier in front of the Flagpole has been expanded. The area near the Flagpole has a number of additional structures serving port functions such as customs inspection buildings and warehouses.

In the 1930s, the building had no major architectural changes. The kiosk warehouses and structures around the Flagpole were dismantled to build a park along the banks of the Saigon River and Ben Nghe canal.

In the period from 1975-2000, the building went through a number of renovations and renovations. The extension built in the 1960s was removed. In 2011, the building was restored to its current architectural form. Thu Ngu flagpole was ranked as a city-level relic in 2016.
