“A semi-military parade military took place magnificently at Kim Nhat Square citadel in the capital Pyongyang on September 8 to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the founding of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea,” North Korea’s state news agency (KCNA) reported.
According to the news agency Yonhap this is the third military parade organized by North Korea this year. In July, a military parade was held to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the signing of the armistice agreement in the Korean War (1950-1953).
The night parade took place in the context of North Korea is seeking to promote relations with China and Russia as well as increase weapons development after South Korea, the US and Japan tightened security cooperation.
The Chinese delegation is led by Deputy Prime Minister Liu Guozhong led the trip to Pyongyang this week, marking the Chinese government’s second high-level visit to North Korea this year. Mr. Liu will attend the celebration of the 75th anniversary of the founding of North Korea.
On September 4, theNew York Times newspaper quoted a US official reporting that Mr. Kim Jong- un may travel to Russia’s Vladivostok next week to meet President Vladimir Putin. If this event takes place, it will be Mr. Kim’s first overseas trip since the pandemic began.
