Poland spent 15 billion USD to buy American Patriot missiles

The US Defense Security Cooperation Agency announced on June 28 that the $15 billion deal would includes 48 Patriot PAC-3 launchers and 644 Patriot PAC-3 MSE missiles along with radar and control equipment for the systems.

The Department of State has jurisdiction over the agreements. The US arms export agreement approved the above arms deal, which will provide Poland with some of America’s most advanced air defense systems.

“This deal will increase the capacity Poland’s missile defense contributes to helping Poland achieve its goals military and improve capabilities while further enhancing interoperability with the US and other allies” Security Cooperation Agency US National Defense announced.

Patriot is a multi-purpose long-range air defense missile system with a range of 70-160km capable of operating in all weather conditions with a target flight ceiling of up to to 24km.

Patriot is capable of intercepting many targets from the air including ballistic missile fighters and cruise missiles. Patriot’s radar is one of the most important parts because it can detect and track more than 100 targets and has an operating range of more than 100km.

NATO member countries in Eastern Europe such as Poland is trying to strengthen its defense capabilities since Russia launched its military campaign in Ukraine last February.

Last month Poland received US-made HIMARS rocket artillery systems export.
