President Biden has expressed his deep concerns regarding the peaceful transfer of power to Vice President Kamala Harris should Trump lose the next election.
In an excerpt from an interview with CBS released on August 7, U.S. President Joe Biden was asked whether he believed there would be a smooth transition of power in January 2025.
“If Donald Trump loses, I have absolutely no confidence that it will happen peacefully,” Biden stated. Everything Trump says implies ‘there will be chaos if he loses’.
Last month, at 81 years old, Mr. Biden announced his decision to halt his re-election campaign, paving the way for Vice President Kamala Harris to become the Democratic nominee. Throughout his early campaign efforts, Biden consistently referenced the January 6, 2021, Capitol riot incited by Trump supporters following his victory over the former president in the 2020 election.
During a rally in Ohio in March, Trump pledged to impose a 100% tariff on cars manufactured outside the United States, emphasizing that only his presidency could safeguard the domestic automotive industry. If I don’t become president, it will be a bloodbath for this industry and the country as a whole,” he asserted.
President Biden frequently cites this remark by his predecessor, despite Republican claims that Trump was solely discussing the issue of electric vehicle imports. Additionally, Trump maintains that the 2020 election was stolen, although he has provided no evidence to support this assertion.
In an interview with CBS, Biden accused the former president of attempting to position allies in key electoral roles within states to manipulate vote counts in the event of another loss. You can’t just be a patriot when you win,” Biden stated. The full interview is set to air on August 11.
Trump’s campaign has yet to respond to the president’s comments.
Biden has long accused Trump of being a threat to American democracy. While Harris occasionally echoes this sentiment, she focuses more on promoting a positive vision for the campaign. She currently holds a narrow lead over Trump in public opinion polls.
