Telling each other to feed chickens “treasures”, Bac Giang farmers earn hundreds of millions/year

Chickens eat treasures to the king

In the last days of May, Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Dung (in Lien Chung commune, Tan Yen district, Bac Giang) continuously received calls. called to buy chickens as well as to share their experiences in raising chickens.

In the commune, Ms. Dung and her husband are the pioneers in feeding chickens with ginseng. Her and her husband’s batches of chickens are sold to the market always gets high prices thanks to the delicious quality of meat.

Sharing about this unique farming model, Ms. Dung said that the technique of raising chickens with herbs is not much different. The only source of drinking water for chickens is the southern ginseng tree, a plant that local people call a “treasure” from heaven.

In early 2021, Ms. Dung’s family began research and experimental farming. Let the chickens drink water from the roots and leaves of the ginseng plant instead of using antibiotics. The first batch of Ms. Dung’s family’s chickens brought very high economic efficiency.

“Initially, my family experimented with raising about 1,000 chickens in the breeding process in addition to the types of food. Normally, we grind the stems and leaves of the ginseng plant and mix it with food and drink for the chickens.

Compared to normal chickens eating ginseng are disease resistant, healthy and have delicious meat quality at a high price. more than 10,000 – 20,000 VND/kg” Ms. Dung shared.

After successfully testing on Ms. Dung’s family’s chicken flock, she introduced this farming model to a number of households in neighboring communes. Up to now, after 2 years, many families have successfully learned and applied each batch of herbal chickens, farmers can pocket from 100 – 200 million VND.

In 2022, the family’s company Ms. Dung expanded the livestock scale to more than 9,000 animals in 3 households in Hop Duc and Phuc Hoa communes. Ms. Dung is in charge of taking care of chicken feed techniques and also purchasing products for farmers.

“The quality of Dan mountain ginseng is equivalent to Korean ginseng only after Ngoc Linh ginseng. Therefore, chickens fed with southern ginseng grow healthily and have delicious meat that is popular.

Since being tested, the herbal chicken raising model is bringing high economic efficiency, helping to improve the economy of the people. Local farmers also created their own chicken brand in Tan Yen district,” Ms. Dung said.

As one of many households that have successfully applied the herbal chicken raising model over the past 3 years, Mr. Vi Van Tot’s family (51 years old in Phuc Hoa Tan Yen commune) has continuously had a good income.

Mr. Tot’s family’s farm has thousands of broiler chickens, both male and female, all healthy and beautiful. Currently, the farm is over 5,000 m2 large, growing lychees and southern ginseng in combination with livestock farming. free-range chickens.

“My family has been raising livestock since 2013, but it was around 2020 that we learned about the model of raising herbal chickens. At first, when I heard the information about raising chickens to feed ginseng, my husband and I were very surprised. It wasn’t until we saw that our neighbors were raising chickens using this model effectively that our family boldly participated with a scale of more than 4,000 chickens,” Mr. Tot said. .

According to Mr. Tot, 3 years since he and his wife fed their chickens more ginseng, raising chickens has been much “easier” from the time they were caught to the time they were sold healthy growth with few diseases.

“In particular, my family has saved quite a lot of money without medicine for 4,000 chickens. In previous years, despite careful care of the chicken flocks, there were still bouts of infections that were stunted and looked ugly, making them very picky about customers. The highest price of chicken at that time was 50,000 VND/kg, making farming almost unprofitable,” Mr. Tot shared.

Mrs. Vi Thi Hien (49 Mr. Tot’s wife’s age) said that since feeding the chickens and drinking ginseng water, raising chickens has become somewhat less difficult. Every morning, Mrs. Hien gets up early and puts a 60-liter pot of water on the stove. After boiling, she puts the ground ginseng stems and leaves into the pot of ginseng water. After letting it cool, she divides it into troughs for the chickens to drink.

“One day, I let my chickens drink ginseng water twice a day, then add clean water. My family’s food besides rice and corn is mixed with minced ginseng. When the chickens are sold, the meat is very firm and has high nutritional value.

Traders, after selling the first batch, now always go to the farm to collect goods, instead of bringing them to the market like other industrially raised chicken breeds,” Ms. Hien said.

< p>Currently, Ms. Hien’s family farm has more than 4,000 broiler chickens that are on sale. Each year the farm can raise 2 batches, each batch sells more than 10 tons of broiler chickens at a price of 80,000-90,000 VND/kg. After deducting expenses, he and his wife have an income of 400-450 million VND/year.

“We can raise 3 batches a year, but my husband and I don’t do that because continuously raising chickens is too big. “Easy to get sick, high risk. So I raise two broods a year and the chickens are healthier and less sick,” Ms. Hien said.
