Similar to Mr. Hung, Mr. Pham Van Thanh (54 years old in village 2, Dien Thap commune) is one of the famous small traders who rose from the scrap metal profession. In the past, like many households, he worked every job to make a living, but poverty still persisted.

After discussing with Mr. Thanh’s wife, he went to Laos to work as a junk trader. After more than 10 years of sticking to his profession, he started out with just a motorbike carrying a few pots and pans… Up to now, Mr. Thanh owns a large agency specializing in supplying many products to Laos.

Now with modern vehicles, we directly go to the North to pick up goods and then classify them to bring to Laos to sell for profit. Every year, the profit is about 350-400 million VND,” Mr. Thanh said.

More than 30 years since starting the traditional economic profession, many families in Dien Thap commune have “gone like a kite in the wind”. In the past, many people knew Dien Thap as a “junk commune” or “scrap commune”, but now they have to admire the rare prosperity of this countryside.

According to statistics of the People’s Committee of Dien Thap commune, currently the whole commune has nearly 7,000 people, 75% of the population has a house, a car, an average income per capita of 30-40 million VND/month and there are many billionaires.

According to Mr. Dau Xuan Manh – Chairman of the People’s Committee of Dien Thap commune, previously people in the commune were very poor . After many years of change and development, the roads have now been opened, making it convenient for people to develop their economy.

In 2020, the average income of the whole commune was just under 10 million VND/person/month and has increased. many times. The whole commune has more than 1,000 cars of all kinds, including many billion-dollar cars.

“The people of Dien Thap commune are very diligent and hard-working, even though they only rely on scrap metal to make a living. But after a while, life has completely changed” Mr. Manh added.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Hong Nhung – Head of Department Labor – War Invalids and Social Affairs of Dien Chau district said that currently the number of workers in Dien Thap commune is working Jobs in Laos are 1,200 people, other countries are 600 people.
