“During the emergency treatment process, the patient needed a lot of blood product transfusions, especially platelets. The Hospital and Hematology Center have allocated all available platelets and recommended “We need the family to mobilize members to directly donate blood to the patient in the hope of saving the patient’s life as soon as possible,” the doctor advised.

Ms. Thao frantically called home to ask for a urine donor. pray for my son. “I have O blood type, everyone’s cousins ​​have the same blood type, they’ve all mobilized,” she said as if crying. The sudden disaster that happened to her son forced her to shoulder the burden of both hospital bills and her son’s life.

Tu is the second son of Thao and her husband. Due to family circumstances and the ability to finish high school, Tu enrolled in the district’s vocational school with the dream of becoming a good chef. After 1 year of studying, Tu’s family situation was difficult and he decided to reserve the beginning of the 2023-2024 school year before going back to school. 

At noon on March 25, on the way home from school, Tu had a traffic accident with a dump truck. The accident left this male student in a coma with serious injuries from the abdomen down, causing shock and multiple life-threatening injuries.

Doctor Phan Anh Dang, Department of Surgical Intensive Care, Huu Hospital Nghe An General Hospital said that patient Dang Viet Tu was hospitalized in a state of shock due to multiple injuries and heavy blood loss.

At the time of admission, the patient’s blood pressure dropped deeply and his pelvis ruptured. Bladder rupture and bleeding in the psoas muscle area on both sides. The patient received emergency treatment and a consultation with the entire hospital and was transferred to emergency surgery and then transferred to the department to continue resuscitation and intensive treatment

Poor mother tries to keep hope for treatment for her child

The internal bleeding was treated, but the patient continuously received red blood cell platelet transfusions.

In addition to worrying about blood sources to provide timely emergency care for her son, the economic burden also weighs heavily on Ms. Thao’s shoulders. Thao and her husband were farmers. Mr. Dau Viet Son, her husband, has poor health but still tries to get a job at a factory near his home. In her spare time, Thao helps with iron tying for construction projects. 

From December last year to the beginning of last March, Mr. Son’s company fell into a situation where there was little work and this man had to take a break to work with his wife as a construction worker. Poor health combined with chronic bronchitis made Mr. Son unable to handle the heavy work in the hot sun. Recently, the company had an order for Mr. Son to return to work, but something happened to Tu. 

Since my son was admitted to the emergency room, Mr. Son’s family has only allowed him to visit him once. People think that Mr. Son’s health condition is not mentally strong enough that if he faints, he will have to take more medicine to take care of him.  

The day Tu had an accident while his grandfather and uncle arrived at the scene to take him to the emergency room, Thao ran to borrow 50 million VND to take him to the hospital. 

“During the emergency, the car owner and driver supported the family with 22 million VND. Money is running out every day but my child’s condition has not improved significantly. The doctor said that my illness requires long-term treatment and that my ability to restore movement will also be hindered due to a broken pelvis. I love my child lying in a coma, but my heart aches like a knife. My child is only 18 years old…” the mother’s eyes filled with tears.

She did not dare to cry, nor did she dare to be weak. The poor mother had to defend herself. He rallied himself to be both spiritual and material support for his comatose child and his sick husband.
