The Vietnamese team changed dramatically compared to the 2019 Asian Cup

The 2019 Asian Cup was a relatively successful tournament for the Vietnamese team. Coach’s army Park Hang Seo won a ticket to the quarterfinals and only narrowly lost to the Japanese team with a score of 0-1.

However, in this year’s tournament, the Golden Star Warriors have changed a lot. Coach Troussier wants to use many young players to create an image Vietnam team completely new. This philosophy has been maintained by the French strategist since leading the team.

According to team statistics Vietnam national team only has 8 faces left who played in the 2019 Asian Cup. Including goalkeeper Dang Van Lam, midfielder Que Ngoc Hai Do Duy Manh Nguyen Thanh Chung, midfielder Do Hung Dung Nguyen Quang Hai, striker Nguyen Tien Linh and Nguyen Van Toan.

It should be added that coach Troussier has only announced the preliminary list. He will eliminate 8 more players before finalizing the list of 26 players participating in the Asian Cup. Most recently, Nguyen Thanh Chung was forced to withdraw from the national team due to injury.

Or goalkeeper Dang Van Lam and midfielder Que Ngoc Hai are also in the running with injury to promptly participate in the 2023 Asian Cup. Among the remaining players, Quang Hai Tien Linh Van Toan or Duy Manh are not sure to guarantee a starting spot in the Vietnamese team.

The Vietnamese team is one of the teams with the youngest average age at the 2023 Asian Cup with 24 9 years old. That shows the strong rejuvenation that Coach Troussier applied.

In the 2023 Asian Cup, the Vietnamese team is in Group D with Japan, Iraq and Indonesia. In the upcoming tournament, coach Troussier’s team will face Japan (6:30 p.m. January 14, 2024), Indonesia (9:30 p.m. January 19), and Iraq (6:30 p.m. January 24).
