Tottenham appointed former Australian team coach

Last night (June 6), Tottenham announced that Mr. Ange Postecoglou became the head coach of this team under a 4-year contract, until June 2027. The 57-year-old strategist has just had a successful season with Celtic, helping the Scottish club win the treble (national championship, National Cup, League Cup).

Ange (Postecoglou) brings positive energy and fast attacking play to the club. He also understands the importance of the connection from the academy, which is very important for the club,” Tottenham President Daniel Levy announced on the day of introducing the club’s new captain.

Before becoming the first Australian strategist to lead a Premier League club, Mr. Postecoglou’s career as a coach went through many ups and downs. The 57-year-old coach once led the Australian U17 and U20 teams and was unemployed for a long time.

Ange then took a coaching job at Greek club Whittlesea Zebras in 2008 and helped this team win the championship. The Australian team once again wanted to stick with Postecoglou, this time he had made a name for himself and was given the opportunity.

Postecoglou helped Australia win tickets to the World Cup in Brazil in 2014 and win the 2015 Asian Cup championship at home. But he shocked the community football in Australia when he left the national team before the 2018 World Cup in Russia and moved to lead Yokohama F. Marinos, Japan’s top team.

One year later, the Australian strategist helped Yokohama F. Marinos win the J1 League. Impressive achievements in Japan helped Mr. Postecoglou be appointed by Celtic in 2021. This season, Postecoglou’s Celtic impressively won the domestic treble.

Current coach of Australian Graham Arnold said he was delighted to see his friend appointed to the Tottenham job: I always knew that he knew about where he wanted to go which was top-flight football . He has had a few failures but learned from them and Ange is someone who is determined to prove his doubters wrong.
