Vietnam’s U20 women enter the final match at the 2024 Asian U20 women’s finals against China’s U20 women at 3:00 p.m. (Vietnam time). Coach Akira Ijiri and his team set the goal of finding their first goal in the tournament, having been eliminated early after 2 losses to Japan’s U20 women’s team with a score of 0-10 and North Korea’s U20 women’s team 0-6.
While the Vietnamese U20 women have officially been eliminated, the Chinese U20 women no longer have the right to self-determine their ticket to the next round. This team hopes for a favorable result in the match at the same time between Japan and North Korea.
With the superiority in physical fitness and U20 level, Vietnamese women rushed forward to attack and captured position. After only 17 minutes, the score was 3-0 in favor of the Chinese women’s U20. However, in the rest of the first half, U20 Vietnamese women played resiliently and did not let their opponents score any more goals.
In the second half, opportunities began to come to U20 Vietnamese women. Minute 75 Ngoc Minh Chuyen used his speed to catch the ball from his teammate’s pass before running down and scoring the goal into the Chinese women’s U20 net, shortening the score to 1-3. This was the first goal of Vietnamese girls in the tournament.
However, before the match ended, U20 Chinese women scored 3 more goals to seal a 6-1 victory. But even with a big victory, the Chinese U20 women were still eliminated because they ranked below Japan and North Korea (with 4 points after 3 matches in Group B).
