Due to not being able to win against U23 Myanmar in the second round of the U23 Southeast Asia tournament, U23 Cambodia was pushed into a difficult position. They need to overcome U23 Thailand in the decisive match to have a ticket to continue. However, the team from Chua Thap country could not make a surprise.
After 90 minutes, U23 Cambodia lost 0-2 to U23 Thailand. With this result, U23 Thailand won the ticket to continue with 9 points after 3 matches. U23 Cambodia ranked second with 4 points but no longer has a chance to compete in the 2nd position group with the best results (not counting the results of the confrontation with U23 Brunei).
Entering the match U23 Cambodia has shown great determination. They created an equal match with Thailand U23. However, the Golden Temple team controlled the game very well, causing U23 Cambodia to be swept away by their playing style.
At the beginning of the second half, U23 Cambodia received cold water. From a corner kick, the Thai player’s header was not dangerous, but the Cambodian goalkeeper and defender did not coordinate well so the ball drifted into the net.
In the next minutes U23 Cambodia pressed forward with attacks but their physical strength is not guaranteed. Towards the end of the match, this team became weaker against Thailand. In the 80th minute, the War Elephants scored their second goal. Nethithorn Kaewcharoen’s shot hit the Cambodian defender’s foot and changed direction to fly into the opponent’s net.
The match ended with a score of 2-0 in favor of Thailand. They have shown the strength of a candidate to win the tournament.
