Walking the wrong way has unpredictable consequences, 7 mistakes you need to avoid

According to Harvard Medical School, walking comes so naturally to most of us that we may not even think about proper walking technique. But an improper gait can lead to many problems, including a stiff neck.

The good news is that decades of ingrained walking habits can be corrected with a little effort. Here are 7 things you need to correct to have a proper gait:

1. Stride too long

When we try to walk faster, our natural tendency is to lengthen our stride forward, reaching out farther with our feet. This leads to an awkward gait, with heavy foot pounding. At that time, your shins hurt and you really can’t go any faster.

Striding too long can even cause you to lose your balance. So if you’re trying to walk fast, focus on taking shorter, faster steps.
