Two British tourists decided to commit suicide I overcame the challenge to test my survival skills by leaving civilized world tries to be a jungle man for 3 weeks without food or clothes.
That is the story of 26-year-old Daniel Olifi and James Moynihan is 27 years old. They went to a jungle in Malaysia to test themselves. The adventure was recorded by both of them in short videos as a form of diary shared with everyone.
Two British boys try to become forest people
Previous When going into the forest, Daniel and James only brought a machete, a mosquito net, a water bottle, and a first aid kit. Instead of wearing clothes, the two British boys stripped naked and used forest leaves as loincloths.
Daniel, a boy from London, recounted his experience: “Sometimes it was very scary. When you sleep at night, maybe a snake will crawl into the shelter and you won’t have a chance to wake up the next day.”
Both’s tent made of forest leaves
“Then sometimes you can step on a snake at any time. At that time, I realized that this is the way idiots die in the natural forest but are never found. However, each person only lives once. We want to prove that anyone can push themselves to the limit and overcome it.”
Daniel’s hand was seriously infected
Before that Daniel was no stranger with great adventures. He walked from his hometown in the UK to the Alps in 2014. At that time, he survived by eating slugs and drinking water from mountain rivers.
Continued by 2015 Daniel cycled across the Sahara desert drinking his urine to conquer the 1,100-mile trip.
Inspired by survival shows on TV, the couple decided to go to Malaysia in October last year challenged himself in the deep Kuantan tropical forest in Panhang.
The first day was not easy when the two boys ran out of drinking water. James found a water source and Daniel built a temporary tent with banana leaves to avoid the rain. Unfortunately, he fell down a ravine and was cut on his hand by a knife, so he had to be treated with medical tape to avoid infection.
Using forest leaves to make loincloths
“ They I made a temporary tent out of forest leaves. Even though the water wasn’t pouring on them anymore, they were both shaking like leaves. Then we tried to move early in the morning but couldn’t. They were both attacked by forest mosquitoes,” Daniel recalled.
Early the next day, Daniel’s hands were so swollen that they had to leave the forest to go out and hitchhike on a local person’s car to a nearby hospital. there.
After the doctor stitched the wound, they left the hospital to continue their adventure. This time it’s another tropical forest near Sungai Tekai. The two lived here for more than 18 days by gathering wild fruits and bugs.
In their diary there is a passage: “We carefully made a shelter so that it would be waterproof to find fruit.” wild to eat. I’m not sure if they are more poisonous, so I have to do a basic test before daring to eat them. My hand was still not healed and smelled bad, so James suspected it was seriously infected.
After 3 weeks of living in the forest, both of their bodies were covered in wounds
By the 13th day the couple admitted they were much weaker. Two days later what they were fed into their bodies were worms and bugs. “Not having clothes makes us shiver from the cold after the rains in the forest.” And this also means that both of them become prey for wild mosquitoes. On the 16th day, they decided to leave the tent behind, get dressed and plan to return to the civilized world.
“We walked on the trail to get out of the forest. The legs started to strike. When we got to the main road, we asked to hitchhike to the nearest village.” Daniel recorded the last lines in his diary “being a jungle man”.
During 21 days in the jungle, the couple lost 20kg. full of injuries, but in return they thought it was a valuable experience. They flew back to their hometown in England, where they were greeted with all-you-can-eat fries, pizza, and burgers after many miserable days of “eating away”.
Talking about their trip, James said: “Everyone has to face life and death situations, but often they are unplanned and almost no one wants to put themselves in them.”
“For me, going to the deep forest Malaysia being a jungle man is the most rewarding gamble. Now I can say how I feel about being alive.”
