WHO: More than 7 million people have died since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic

WHO last weekend said that according to statistics since the outbreak of Covid-19, by the end of 2023 more than 7 million people on world died from this pandemic. However, according to WHO, the actual number could be 3 times higher, meaning up to 21 million deaths.

Most recently in December 2023, the world recorded 10,000 deaths from Covid-19.

While Covid-19 may no longer be a concern for most people, there are still those who continue to silently suffer the long-term effects.

WHO is in the process of analyzing the number of deaths that may be missed during the pandemic as well as after the disease is no longer a global health emergency.

Deaths excess is calculated based on the difference between the observed number of deaths in a particular time frame and the expected number of deaths in that same time period.

“We have estimates to the end of 2021 and these estimates are being revised to consider excess deaths for 2022 and will also be made for 2023. We assume the actual (death) number at least 3 times higher” said Head of WHO’s Covid-19 response technical department Maria Van Kerkhove.

In addition, since the outbreak, more than 712 million people around the world have been infected. Covid-19. However, Ms. Van Kerkhove commented that that number is only “the tip of the iceberg”.
