Origin of elm wood

The elm tree is distributed in the northern plains of China. It has more than 20 varieties, the best wood is elm in the Zhangjiakou region and along the Yellow River in Shandong. Du is not distributed as much in Vietnam as the wood spokes.

In the past, elm was grown as an industrial tree, popularly grown in the northern mountainous provinces of our country. However, later overexploitation occurred, so du was not developed much. And only a very small number is preserved in Bac Can. This is also the reason why this tree is in the top I of the distribution table of rare wood in Vietnam.

The average height can be up to 35 meters, the diameter ranges from 170 to 175cm. It is the most common wood material in northern China furniture. Especially in the folk furniture dumps in Shanxi, Shandong, Hebei, Tianjin, Beijing. Elm wood and ragwood of the South are compared to “Northern du Nam jay”.

Elm wood properties

The elm tree has a hard and supple wood, has a rather heavy density, and a rough layout. Low deformation ability, good elasticity, medium bearing strength. High moisture resistance, hard to rot, easy to process and cut. So the products made of elm wood have a very high use time. It is thicker than wood veneer.

The color of the core and the cover is clearly divided. The cover layer is dark yellow, the core layer is purple-gray. Wood has a simple natural color, transparent wood grain. The ridges are sharp, like layered feathers. It looks like the wood grain of katuk wood, brave but very delicate, soulful, elegant but rustic. It has the same high value as incense,  driftwood,  peach rosewood,  sued wood.
