Trump may let Elon Musk join the cabinet

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump hinted that if he wins the election, he might bring billionaire Elon Musk into his cabinet or appoint him as an advisor at the White House.

“Would you consider giving Elon Musk a position in your cabinet or as an advisor?” a Reuters reporter asked former President Donald Trump during an interview on August 19.

“Yes, he’s incredibly smart. I had a fantastic conversation with him just the other day—it lasted about two and a half hours,” Trump responded. “If he wants to be involved, I would certainly agree. Musk is an amazing individual.”

Musk has not yet commented on the statement.

These remarks come just a week after Musk interviewed Trump on his social media platform, X. During the exchange, the two praised each other on various policy issues and took jabs at Democratic candidate Kamala Harris.

Musk suggested that if Trump were re-elected, he should establish a committee to oversee and streamline government spending, and the billionaire expressed his enthusiasm for being a part of it. In response, Trump said he would “love” to have Musk join his administration, highlighting Musk as a “great cost-cutter,” referring to the cost-cutting measures Musk has implemented in his companies.

Musk has publicly shown his support for Trump since the former president survived an assassination attempt in Pennsylvania last month. Musk also confirmed that he has donated to Trump’s campaign, though the amount is less than the $45 million per month speculated by the media. Musk is believed to have supported President Joe Biden and the Democratic Party in the 2020 election.
